Have A New Look Using Microdermabrasion Machines
Does your skin feel rough and dull? If so, then maybe it’s time for a good sanding down or what is more formally known as microdermabrasion using microdermabrasion machine. Basically, this is a skin resurfacing treatment which gently removes the top layer of the skin with micro-aluminum oxide crystals or a diamond- tipped wand.

Microdermabrasion, is a non invasive procedure with no surgery involved. It can be done at home, spas and salons, as well as, in dermatological clinics. The treatment, removes the dead tissue allowing the skin to grow back, revitalized. It improves skin color, removes smaller acne scars and reduces enlarged pores.

During the process, a rush of dormant natural mineral crystal is sprayed on the face and then vacuumed back. This is done after the skin is thoroughly cleansed and all traces of oil and makeup removed. The eyes are covered with protective covering and the face is sprayed with fine particles.

Though experts argue that the laser or the chemical peel treatments have some advantages over this procedure, in both these treatments, patients are advised to take time off work, which is seen as a disadvantage by many.

Microdermabrasion offers benefits similar to the more aggressive facial peels, with no downtime.

Cosmetologists are also finding that a combination of treatments, that is laser and facial peel, would give the best results. With the removal of the outer layer of skin, the skin is more receptive to other medications. For instance, bleaching agents to improve skin color would be more effective after microdermabrasion.

Some cosmetologists suggest that the procedure be combined with glycolic acid or retinoic acid, which causes the collagen agents in the skin to tighten. The advantage here is that there is a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. But this is only temporary and the procedure has to be repeated.

The treatment sometimes causes a certain degree of redness and tightening of the skin, which is likely to last a day. In some cases the skin tends to peel. It is best to take expert advice on the use of sunscreen or lotions, before getting back to work or play.

Those with a history of herpes simplex around the lips should take the doctor’s advice for medication before the procedure. Patients, on Accutane, (a drug used in the treatment of acne) are advised to wait for six to 12 months before any skin resurfacing treatment, as Accutane increases skin sensitivity.

Pregnant and nursing mothers are advised to wait until they deliver and are through nursing. Similarly, teenagers are also advised to wait. Hormones are likely to inhibit or change the effects of the procedure. Doctors also advise against microdermabrasion machine for those suffering from keratosis, undiagnosed lesions, active rosacea or acne.

The main risk to microdermabrasion is when the procedure is performed under unhygienic conditions with unsterile instruments and poorly trained practitioners. There is also the risk of the patient’s face being pierced by the fine crystals if the machine is used at a velocity higher than that which is recommended.
